I hope my hearty (Captain of the concerned crew) won't be mad at me for these screen shots...
But well, you don't need to grapple your own crew ships, LOL!

Edit: in fact (I was wrong), grappling is strongly recommended in order to quickly end a failed attempt to trigger the monkey boat. But still, the attacking ship should be empty to prevent any transfer of pieces of eight and goods from its hold to the other ship (the winner).
